Play free instruments

12 openly licensed instruments you can play with your mouse, a touch screen, your computer keyboard or a MIDI controller. Each loads only when you pick it.

Each instrument is a handful of recorded notes, repitched to fill its range (2604 KB for all 12). Sustained instruments loop, so held notes keep sounding. The MIDI Reader plays files with the same sounds. For complete libraries, browse the 36 sound libraries.

Only instruments whose licenses allow redistribution are hosted here. Files were trimmed, converted to mono, looped where the instrument sustains, and MP3-encoded; each folder has a LICENSE.txt listing the original files.
